- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 (16 oz) bag frozen tater tots
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Have a large, oven-safe skillet or a 9×13-inch baking dish ready.
- In the skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper until beef is browned and veggies are soft, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess grease. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
- Reduce heat to low. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and simmer for 5 minutes.
- If using a separate dish, transfer the beef mixture. Smooth into an even layer. Sprinkle with 1 ½ cups of cheese. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until tater tots are golden and crispy.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle with remaining ½ cup of cheese, and return to oven for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
