Description

Amazing homemade apple crisp Easy delicious recipe Warm spiced apples w golden oat topping Perfect dessert for any occasion

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala blend)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of allspice (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

  • Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the apples: Wash, peel, core, and slice apples into uniform, 1/2-inch thick pieces. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice (if using), and flour/cornstarch. Toss until apples are evenly coated. If desired, add lemon juice to prevent browning. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Make the topping: In a separate medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, rolled oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt (if using). Add the cold, cubed butter. Using your fingertips or a pastry blender, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  • Bake: Place the baking dish on a baking sheet (to catch any potential drips). Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
  • Cool and serve: Let the apple crisp cool for at least 15-20 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to set. Serve warm, plain, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
