A quick, family-friendly gluten-free sloppy joe with all the comforting flavors of a classic. Made with ground beef, veggies, and a tangy sauce, this recipe is ready in 30 minutes and perfect for busy weeknights.
1 small onion, finely diced
â…“ green bell pepper, seeded and finely diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb ground beef
½ teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
â…” cup gluten-free ketchup (no high fructose corn syrup)
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 ½ teaspoon yellow mustard
¾ teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon gluten-free Worcestershire sauce (non-alcoholic alternative)
Gluten-free hamburger buns, for serving
Finely dice the onion, green bell pepper, and garlic cloves.
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onions, and green bell pepper over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink. Break up the beef with a spatula.
Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Stir in ketchup, water, brown sugar, tomato paste, mustard, chili powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Spoon the mixture onto gluten-free hamburger buns and serve. Optional: Pair with coleslaw or a green salad.
Ensure all ingredients are certified gluten-free. Substitute non-alcoholic Worcestershire sauce for the Lea & Perrins version to avoid alcohol. Leftovers refrigerate well for 3-4 days.
